Cleanser - Eye Shadow Brushes
Soap - Sponges and Foundation Brushes
My favourite method of cleaning my brushes is to us a sponge. I first started with a proper beauty blender soap which made cleaning my miracle complexion sponges so much easier. Once that ran out i picked up some standard body soaps and they work just as well. I find foundation brushes wash really easily with soaps as the foundation can build up on the brushes which can be stubborn to remove. The best thing about this method is that you can find packs of soap for basically nothing in B&M or Home bargains!
Shower Products - Majority of Brushes
This is definitely the cheapest option and gives my brushes the best clean out of all the three. I like to do a big clean with all my brushes when I use this method so I don't tend to do it too often as it can be time consuming. When I do use this method I feel like a new women after I am finished. I usually wet the brushed under a running tap and then swirl them around in a handful of shower gel and run under running water again until it runs clean. This can be super quick with eye shadow brushes but can take longer with foundation brushes. This is my favourite method to wash my brushes and for just £6.50 these products can last for months and months even if you washed your brushes once a week.
As you can see i have a lot of brushes to wash... Which method do you prefer to use? Do you have any cheaper alternatives?
Starting with the palette in the shade Nude - isn't it just so gorgeous?! They do have little quads in the collections now but the shades in both were pretty dull, after I swatched the three gold shades in this palette in the shop I fell in love. They are super buttery which I wasn't expecting so when I first used them they blended really easily and the pigmentation was really good. I have created some lovely brown golden eyes which this palette and the look has lasted all day on my lids with just the lightest shade in the palette as a base on the lid. I've have a gold glitter eye shadow from Newlook from a few years ago which I absolutely love so I knew I would be a fan of this palette. As you can see from the palette I have two favourite shades already and they look so beautiful on the lid.
Lastly I picked up a Lip Liner in the shade Rouge which is a classic ruby red which is perfect underneath any red lipstick, it also has a hint of pink to it so it will be great to use underneath my more pinky red shades. As well as that I picked up some Matte Velvet Lipstick Crayons in three shades which I am really excited about. I picked up the shades Toffee Apple which is a brown nude, Heather which is a burgundy dark nude and Royal which is a dark brown with hints of purple/burgundy in (I am really bad at describing shades but I have included swatches). I really like this so far I have wore Heather so many times already which encouraged me to try the other two shades. I find them don't dry out my lips even though they are matte lip products which is good for me since I have dry lips. I found it also lasted all day on me which is amazing, I only had to touch it up in the middle of my lips after I ate some food. The thing I like most about Heather is that it doesn't apply patchy at all which I find with dark crayon lip products so I have no problems applying it without a mirror because I know it will look good. - I can't find the shades of the Matte Velvet Crayons on the website so I have left the link for all the crayons they do have so you can shop the shades in stock!

I have my second set of brushes for you today and they haven't disappointed! These ones I got from eBay again for just £6.18 which is a bargain for such good brushes. As you can see these are copies of Real Technique brushes and comparing these to my proper RT brushes, you can see no difference to how they work. The brushes are really soft and lightweight so hopefully will apply my makeup flawlessly.
You get 5 brushes in this set and you get one brush for everything really. The first one (brushes are arranged back to front because I'm silly) I have been using to put my foundation on and I haven't actually used anything else to put my foundation on since. I think the reason I prefer this to my old favourite foundation flattop brush is because it is more dense so it feels to me like it buffs my foundation in better and quicker.
The second rounded brush I have been using to blend in my concealer, it is a good brush but I don't know if it overtakes my beauty blender just yet. The third brush is another foundation brush I think I will really get on with, I think this one will be the next brush I use to apply my foundation as it is a bit more rounded then the complete flattop.
The fourth brush is an angled flattop brush that I think I will use to apply contour and hightlight as it should fit perfectly into the hollows of my cheeks. The last brush is probably my favourite brush because of the way it looks and feels, it is really light and feels like a feather on the face. I haven't decided what I'm going to use this brush for yet but watch this space because I do think I am going to love it soon enough!

This set came first out of the three and it literally took no longer than 3 days to get to me which made me really happy! I also wasn't expecting the packaging they came in, it came in a big box and then inside was this big pink case. How nice is this case?! I love the colour and the fact it has a flap at the top so that the brushes don't fall out. I give the case a 5/5!
Onto the brushes, you get 24 brushes in this pack which considering the price is amazing. In this set you get in total
- 5 eye tools
- 4 tiny eye brushes
- 5 small eye brushes
- 4 brown eye brushes
- 2 flanned brushes
- 1 foundation brush
- 2 blush/contour brushes
- 1 powder brush
That is a lot in one pack and I am hoping that the amount of eye brushes it includes will encourage me to start exploring eye makeup a little more as the most I do is eye liner and mascara, eye shadow scares me as I am rubbish at it!
All the brushes have really soft hairs which feel amazing on my face, when I first got them I just kept stoking my face with them, it got a bit excessive after 5 minutes of doing so... I especially love that a mascara wand is included in this kit as you don't really see any around. The fanned brush I have been using to apply highlighter on my cheek bones and foundation brush has been really loved since I got it.
I think the thing I like most about this kit is that the brushes are so much softer than another Real Technique brush set and other sets as well. You just cant go wrong with this kit.

I like to use two brushes for contouring, the setting brush to make a line on my cheek bones and the multi task brush to blend it out.

I will be doing an updated version of this post after a few months of using some new brush sets that I have bought which was quite naughty.. so we can see if my new brushes have replaced any of my favourites at the moment.
I have been a makeup brush kind of girl for years now ever since I first started getting into makeup (spot my flat top foundation brush), this was the reason I was super hesitant to experiment with the beauty gimmick of the hour, the beauty blender. I didn't believe in the hype and regarded it as a one hit wonder that would be forgotten about soon enough.
Boy was I wrong!
Not only are they still around and kicking, I now own one (not by choice) and am indeed in love with using it! I publicly eat my own words.
I came to own a pink beauty blender thanks to Birchbox which I am actually not subscribed to anymore, but they did get something right with this product. I had it a number of months before I started using it because if I am being honest I just wasn't interested in it.
Until one faithful day when I realised that I had washed my makeup brushes at the wrong time because now I needed to rush out, normally I wouldn't mind going out without makeup on but I was meeting up with a friend and my face was super red. My options were to use my fingers and probably irritate my face more and have streaky foundation or use this little pink ball of sponge.
I opted for the sponge because I am such an adventurous person... and I have been using it every day ever since. I don't use it to blend in my foundation I am still stuck in my ways with my flat top buffing brush, but I do use it every day to blend in my concealor. I find it blends in my concealor amazingly like it is my own skin, it is the perfect shape to blend the product around my eye area and I feel like I use less product now then I did with a brush.
One thing that really put me off using these sponges was cleaning them afterwards, I thought it would be annoying and not very hygienic in general. The first time I washed it I found it was super easy to clean and was much like how I clean my makeup brushes, rub lots of soap into it and hold it under the water and presto, a clean sponge again! I have find that using it for just concealor has left me with no unsightly spots as well so I feel much more at easy with using it.
I think beauty blenders will be a product that are around for years now and to be honest I don't mind that now that I have tried it out for myself. I guess it proves your shouldn't judge a book by its cover, or a sponge by its use...
